I used to dream that I would randomly float up to the ceiling. I couln't will it to happen-- it just did! If I was outside, though, that was bad, 'cause there was no ceiling, and I would just float away.

Typically when we dream at night our muscles go into a relaxed state while our bodies are resting. Our nerves "feel" this and send the message to our brains. Since we are asleep we don't actually experience the feeling in a waking sense, but many times that feeling can translate into our dreams as floating, flying, falling, swimming, or other sensations of relative weightlessness. It is one of my favorite sensations in a dream, especially if you can take control of it (which you can do, but it is not easy).
