It's a word that people who scare too easily use as an excuse to, a) not date you, b) dump you, or c) run away from you. It's basically a cliche. Single people who fail at relationships LOVE advising other relationship hopefuls to avoid being "clingy" like the plague, but throughout decades of unsuccessful romantics rambling this pathetic crap, the cliche has more than lost it's meaning and impact.
