I work at a casino, and I can tell you it is sad to see people coming in to gamble their money away. Some people even at 8 in the morning on a saturday/sunday. Why wouldn't they be at home sleeping in bed.
The one thing you have to remember is the house will win the majority of the time. Thats how they make their money. Playing on the pokies is a game of luck not of skill. It's hardly even luck the odds are against you to begin with.
Especially if the regulating bodies set the winnning ratio to low. In New Zealand I think it is something like, the house only has to pay out 20% of the time. So 80% of the time you are going to lose your money.
Remember, the house will win the majority of the time. You are not going to get your money back. Ever. The odds are just not worth.

I would definitely recommend that you stop and walk away, and if you can't, to get help. Gambling addiction can wreck your life and possibly pull your family and close friends down with you. You're young enough to heal nicely from this one, so just stop.

You don't have to stop. All you have to do is set limits for yourself. If you enjoy holdem, by all means play. But don't lose your ass on it. Set yourself a limit, maybe $40 a week, whatever you can afford for entertainment. Gambling is entertainment, not a chance at hitting it out of the ballpark. There are no sure shots, no guaranteed wins. You pay to play. If you happen to lose, great. Use your skills to earn. Find a job that pays you to play. You are sitting at the wrong side of the table my friend.

join a group that plays for penny stakes -- you can't lose more than $10 a night and make great friends worth far more!

hi saidso.
stopping gambling is like stopping cigarettes.. that is there is no minipuff.
i lost more than 20k when i was your age. and its only 2 years back that i stopped.
Gamblers anonymous online questions helped me.i gather for each one of us its different...
LOL , i remember how i wanted to double up , do "martingale" and "reverse martingale" in craps / blackjack. and like you when i did the final sum. i could have a boat by now.
So to cut things short. What to do :-)
1) Find a better girlfriend . Sorry this is the truth as you are not surrounded by people who care and have strong ties with you. As they would have noticed and kicked your bum( and you would have been happy)
2) Go on vacation. if you are in u.s take a cruise like 700$ with family. OK if you want to keep your existing girlfriend bring her with ya.And create a BOND. tell her the whole truth.
3) Like me you know the house always win. my secret is i said to myself " One day i'm gonna open a casino" :-)
how about a gap year ;-) with some africans..

thank you for the advice everyone, it really helped a lot :) esp collabo, the hardest thing for me is thinking back to what i could have bought if i never spent a penny at a casino. and yeah, i always think a casino would be a damn good business!

hey saidso , thank you :D
ah texas holdem , that's a nice game , if only we could play without the waging factor. you know how many nights i calculated the odds of having the best hand. and doing the check / check / raise, waiting for the river.LOL
There was a time, where every game i played i wanted to play it for cash.. even scrabble.. that's really dangerous.
so saidso , what solution are you going after ?

im just gonna quit. ive got a lot of good things going for me now with school and my job and girlfriend. ive lost enough to knwo that im too deep in the hole to dry to dig myself out. plus the economy is keeping me in check, i know i gotta hold onto my money.
but man i know what thats like, i lost $100 when i was 13 playing go fish. and i used to work as a waiter when i was 16 and every friday id lose all my tip money at a poker game id host at my house. when i turned 18 i went to my first casino and lost a grand in a weekend. the thrill of it still gets my heart pumping though and talking about right now makes me want to gamble right now... ah!! i gotta stay away haha
