Answerjam - a savior?

So, after reading that recent secret/vent/whatever it was about the kid who's mom leaves her home alone for days at a time, I have to wonder.. what's AnswerJam's policy on alerting the authorities about sensitive information? For instance, if someone posted a "secret" about a crime they commit, does answerjam have a legal obligation to turn them in? Or if someone says "I'm in an abusive relationship" or "my mom leaves me home alone and makes me fend for myself". I mean, even therapists have to turn people in on some occasions. & if not , where's the moral line drawn? How many people will read about a child being neglected before someone does something? If that's not a call for help, what is?

Not their problem- they aren't a charity- and the reason this site is on the internet is for profit, sorry to inform ya

Hi, good question. Basically, it comes down to this - if the authorities ask us for information, then we're obliged to co-operate. Afterall, we're not priests, or doctors, or lawyers.

I realise, however, that that's not quite the question you're asking, though. We've aimed to create a community here, and whilst there may be some cases where you might think that direct involvement on our part might be a good thing, we consider that overall, it's better for us to keep out of it. It is, afterall, a community; hopefully, as such, people will be able to guide others in the right direction. We're not, however, trying to stand in for the police, or a therepist, or anything; answerJam is, at it's most basic level, a place where people can come to say what they want, anonymously.

We feel that's the greatest strength here, and we're keen to preserve it. If you'd like to ask us anything more about this, please feel free to send us an email at admin@answerjam.com
