Understanding New Zealand’s Family Stream Category

Because of the scarcity in human resources in New Zealand, many migrants are lured to seek jobs here. There are different ways to migrate and work in New Zealand. You can receive a job offer from an employer in NZ or you can start the application process by submitting your Expression of Interest or EOI. Another way is through the family stream applications.

In order to qualify for the family streaming applications, you should meet the basic requirements of good health, good character and the ability to use the English language proficiently. These are the basic requirements needed from anyone who wish to enter New Zealand.

You can migrate to New Zealand if you have a partner or spouse who is a citizen or a permanent resident here. To start the application process, you need to complete the application form for the said category. Attach the necessary requirements needed when you submit it. Make sure that you have a copy of the forms you have submitted. You also need to settle certain fees for the processing of your application. Make sure that you have your passport and other travel documents with your application as well.

You will be required to provide evidence that your relationship is legit. This is to verify that your partnership is stable and legal. Here are some of the evidences that may be asked from you:

• Marriage certificate
• Civil Union certificate
• Lease or rent documents
• Joint bank accounts
• Testimonies from friends
• Photographs and documents of travels together

A proof of the authenticity of your partnership is necessary because many are committing fraud just to enter the country. NZ government just want to make sure that the migrants who will be moving in the country can really contribute to the improvement of the state of the nation.

Aside from spouses and partners, other members of the family can also migrate to New Zealand. If you are a migrant who has acquired a permanent resident status and you are applying for the residency of your dependent children, in order to qualify, you have to be a law abiding resident of the country. In addition to that you have to present a proof that you are indeed a permanent resident of the country.

Although you can apply for your dependent children, you have to make sure that they are eligible as well. They have to be of good health and of good character. Qualified children are those aging 24 years old or younger. He or she should be financially dependent to an adult. The adult does not have to be the parent of the dependent children. Moreover, in order for your children to gain residency in the country, you should have declared them in your resident status application.

Siblings or adult children of qualified residents may also work here and eventually settle in New Zealand. There are different temporary visas that they can use. After working in New Zealand for a while, they will be eligible to apply for a permanent visa. However, they should prove that they deserve to stay in the country for good.
